Horus, the Egyptian sky god whose symbol was the falcon, appears in the ancient pyramid texts. The 'Eye of Horus' originates from the historical battle between Horus and his father's jealous brother. In this battle, Horus lost his left eye. After winning, he traveled across the sea to resurrect his father Osiris and offered him his sacrificial eye. This became a symbol of all sacrifice and appears throughout ancient Egyptian art.
