Hare in the myths and stories of the world - Marjut Hjelt
Discover the mythical world of long ears!
In world myths, hares and rabbits are anything but timid prey animals and cute pets. Among them are mighty creator gods, goddesses who protect women, scheming deceivers, unrestrained drunkards, witches in disguise and kind-hearted helpers. But why exactly does the hare bring the Easter eggs, and how did the long ear end up in the Chinese calendar?
The myths and stories in Marjut Hjelt's work come from different parts of the world, from the Aztec Empire and Africa to Siberia and Tibet - without forgetting the Finnish rabbit tradition.
"Quetzalcoatl was moved by the hare's kindness and took it to the moon. 'Even if you are just a little hare, people will always remember you,' said the god. Because of this, the image of the hare illuminates all mankind on the moon in all past and future times."
